Staff recommendation:  Staff recommends that permission to relocate the house be denied.

1.  The relocation of a historic structure should never be undertaken unless the house would otherwise be destroyed.

2.  Because the house is on a corner lot and faces Alexander St., its fundamental historic ambience will remain intact even if the apartment complex is built.

3.  The entire neighborhood is a National Register Historic District.  Consequently, any arguments about the proposed new location being more suitable are fallacious.

4.  The moving of the house to the proposed new site would result in the destruction of a contributing building in the North Charlotte National Register Historic District.

5.  The proposed relocation of the house is not in keeping with the wishes of the owner who entered into the deed covenants.
