AGENDA
Item #1 - Chairman’s Report: Ms. Gray, Committee Vice-Chair
Ms. Gray welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Item #2 - Consulting Director’s Report: Dr. Morrill
Dr. Morrill told about the business that will be considered this evening.
Item #3 - Presentation of Design Concepts for Sidney and Ethel Grier
House:
Copeland Architects
Mr. Murdock of Copeland Architects distributed proposed design plans for
the Sidney and Ethel Grier House which is owned by the HLC is and will be
renovated and sold. The house, located on approximately two acres of land
situated at the corner of Providence Road and Tilley Morris Road, will be
located in the center of a Portrait Homes development featuring town homes
that will sell for approximately $180,000. The HLC bought the property for
$100,000.
The Committee members discussed design Schemes I and II and agreed that
Scheme II appears to be the more desirable to pursue. The Committee
preferred Scheme II due to the fact that more of the original kitchen wall
is retained, an additional bath tub will be added in one of the downstairs
bathrooms
, and a skylight will be added which will give more light to the upstairs
bedroom and over the stairway and downstairs hall. The Committee members
agreed that the well house should be stabilized. Proposed drawings are on
file at the HLC office. Final proposed design plans will be presented to the
Design Review Committee at a future date.
Item #3 - Presentation of Design Concepts for Grier-Rea House: Mr.
Yelverton
Mr. Yelverton distributed proposed design plans for the Grier-Rea House.
The house is owned by the HLC and was moved from its original site at the
corner of Colony and Rea Roads to a new location at the corner of Providence
and Alexander Roads. The HLC will sell this important house which was built
during the time of Thomas Jefferson’s presidency of the U. S. after the
restoration is finished. Mr. Yelverton said that an approval letter has been
received from the State of N. C. for the work. The Committee discussed the
proposed plans and made suggestions. The biggest item for consideration was
the design plan for the upstairs bathrooms. Final proposed plans will be
presented at future date.
There was no old nor new business. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
