AGENDA

1. Chairman’s Report: Matt Benson

Mr. Benson welcomed Mr.  Pursley as a new member of the Committee.

2. Director’s Report: Dan Morrill

Dr. Morrill stated that applications continue to be processed as Minor Works. 

3. Applications for a Certificate of Appropriateness

A.  Palmer Fire School, 2601 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, N.C.

Proposed landscape changes were presented associated with the installation of a new section of municipal sewer.  The proposed project would involve construction work on park land on the eastern edge of the parcel. 

MR. SHURLEY PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. HOBBS  TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE PALMER FIRE SCHOOL, 2601 E. SEVENTH ST., CHARLOTTE, N.C. BE APPROVED AS SUBMITTED REGARDING THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW SECTION OF MUNICIPAL SEWER.  THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

B.  Charlotte Woman's Club, 1001 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, N.C.

The Committee discussed the proposed landscape plans for the property.  The Committee understood that its sole responsibility is to determine the impact of the proposed plan upon the historic character of the property.

DR. MATTSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. SHURLEY TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE CHARLOTTE WOMAN'S CLUB, 1110 EAST MOREHEAD ST., CHARLOTTE, N.C., BE APPROVED AS SUBMITTED WITH THE STIPULATION THAT STAFF WILL REVIEW AND APPROVE THE MATURE HEIGHT OF PLANTING MATERIAL AND THE WATTAGE OF LANDSCAPE LIGHTING TO ASSURE NEITHER ADVERSELY IMPACTS THE HISTORIC CHARACTER OF THE CHARLOTTE WOMAN'S CLUB. THE COMMITTEE  APPROVED THE MOTION WITH MR. ELLIOTT ABSTAINING IN THE VOTE.

No old business was presented.

5. New Business

Ms. Jennifer Oates reported on her progress with attempting to secure the preservation of Former Charlotte Fire Station No. 2.
