Ms. Autrey reminded the committee members to keep the 17th day after the 2nd Monday in each month at 5:30 p.m. clear on their calendars for the Design Review Committee meetings. Ms. Autrey said that the HLC voted at its last meeting not to hold a July meeting which means that the Design Review Committee will also not meet in July.

2. Consulting Director’s Report: Dan Morrill

Dr. Morrill distributed copies of the State Enabling Legislation and explained the legal aspects of a demolition request for designated historic property.

3. Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for Demolition for the following property:

The Robinson House

8716 Steele Creek Road

Steele Creek Community

Dr. Morrill distributed information about the property. He showed slides and told about the historical and architectural significance of the house and the area. Information about the property can be seen on the HLC’s website under Design Review and Designated Landmarks which can be accessed either through cmhpf.org or landmarkscommisison.org.

Mr. Williams, the attorney for the owner, told the owner’s position regarding the property. The house is currently rented as the owner lives in a retirement center. He answered committee members questions.

MR. BOOKOUT PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MS. BOS TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE COMMISSION DELAY THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR 365 DAYS FROM THE ISSUANCE DATE AND THAT THE PROJECTS COMMITTEE GIVE THE MOST SERIOUS CONSIDERATION TO THE FEASIBILITY OF THE COMMISSION’S PURCHASING THE ROBINSON HOUSE, 8716 STEELE CREEK ROAD, MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N. C., AND THE TAX PARCEL NUMBER WITHIN WHICH IT SITS, SO THAT DEVELOPMENT CAN OCCUR WHICH WOULD BE SENSITIVE TO THE RURAL CHARACTER OF THE ROBINSON HOUSE AND ITS SURROUNDINGS. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

The meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
