AGENDA
1. Chairman’s Report: Ms. Hockett welcomed everyone to the
meeting.
2. Consulting Director’s Report: Dr. Morrill said that the two
Applications for Certificates of Appropriateness being considered today
are for the Coffey House and the William Lee House.
3. Applications for Certificates of Appropriateness
A. James Morrow Coffey House, 3300 Shopton Road, Charlotte, N.
C.
The owner of the property, Mr. Ladd Ackerman, was present in support
of the Application. Mr. Gray presented rudimentary drawings (not
elevations) of the proposed two-story addition to the rear of the house.
Mr. Ackerman answered questions about the proposed plans. After
discussing the matter, the Committee agreed that the applicant must
present more complete information and detailed elevations of the
proposed addition in order to adequately assess the Application. The
Committee agreed that if the owner wishes to have the Application
considered at the September 12th meeting of the HLC, plans deemed to be
acceptable by HLC staff must be in the HLC’s office no later than
September 1, 2005. The Committee asked Mr. Gray to write a letter to the
owner stating the requirements necessary for the Application for a
Certificate of Appropriateness to be considered at the September 12th
HLC meeting.
B. William Lee House, 6415 Gaywind Drive, Charlotte, N. C.
The owner of the property, Mr. Robert Teller, was present in support
of the Application. Proposed elevations by Meyer-Greeson-Paullin for the
large addition to the rear of the house were presented. Mr. Teller said
that he desires that the original home’s facade be viewed from Sharon
View Road and that the address be returned to 2550 Sharon View Road. A
barn-like outbuilding will also be built.
MR. JONES PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. SHURLEY TO RECOMMEND TO
THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE
OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE WILLIAM LEE HOUSE, 6415 GAYWIND DRIVE,
CHARLOTTE, N. C., BE APPROVED AS PRESENTED. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY
APPROVED THE MOTION.
Note: The Committee agreed that details for landscaping and
improvements for the yard and for property lines in front of the
property along Sharon View Road and barn plans could be handled under
Minor Works.
4. Old Business
No old business was presented.
5. New Business
Dr. Morrill said that some applicants are not following the
instructions found on the HLC’s website - www.cmhpf. org, for
Applications for Certificates of Appropriateness. The Committee agreed
that deadlines must be met and that scaled elevations and site plans
must be a part of the Application or the Application cannot be accepted.
