Director's Report
April 9, 2007
Action Items.
1. Two UNCC Graduate students have been
serving as interns with the Commission this semester. Brandon Lunsford
has produced a Survey and Research Report on the Ranson House in
Huntersville and is doing in-depth historical research on White Oak
Plantation. Bill Jeffers has been conducting a reconnaissance survey
of the built environment of Matthews and its environs for a comprehensive
study to be undertaken by a graduate public history class in the Fall.
I hereby request that staff be authorized to pay $1500 each to Mr. Lunsford
and Mr. Jeffers upon successful conclusion of their work in May.
Information Items.
1. The County Budget Department is
continuing to work on the recommended budget for the HLC.
2. Staff is still awaiting word on whether the Citizens Capital Budget
Advisory Committee and the County will recommend the placing of additional
funds for the Revolving Fund on this fall's bond referendum.
3. The plastic coverings for the
windows at Grace A.M.E. Zion Church will definitely be completed by this
Friday.
4. City Council will consider the HLC's
interlocal agreement at its meeting on April 23rd. Staff will be
present to answer questions.
5. There have been no additional
discussions with the prospective buyer of the Hayes Byrum Store in Steele
Creek.
6. The rehabilitation of the N. S.
Alexander House continues and is near completion.
7.
Staff continues to work to finalize arrangements for moving the McAuley
House to its new location on the Oehler property.
8. Len Norman and I did meet with the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department
to discuss
how the two agencies can continue to work together to advance their shared
interests. Staff will be providing a list of endangered rural
properties for consideration by the Parks and Recreation Department.
9. Robert Schmitt will be beginning
work soon on the Sidney and Ethel Grier House.
10. Staff is still awaiting the receipt of
the appraisal on the Torrence Lytle School property.
11. There have been important
developments with respect to Streetcar 85. The Federal government will
not certify Streetcar 85 for regular service on the light rail line because
of concerns about the survivability of the car if it collided with a light
rail vehicle. The car might only be used in excursion service.
Discussions are on-going between Charlotte Trolley and CATS.
