Director's Report
1. The County
Manager will be releasing his recommended budget on May 20th. I
will keep you advised of the status of the HLC's operating budget for
the upcoming year.
2. Ron Tober and I
will be meeting later this month with Keith Parker, the head of CATS, to
discuss possible future uses for the GM New Style Bus owned by the HLC
and restored by CATS. Among the items to be discussed will be the
timing of securing historic landmark designation for the vehicle.

3. The Preservation
Workshop sponsored by the HLC will be held at White Oak Plantation
between 1 and 5 pm on May 20th. Several other Commissions will be
sending representatives to fulfill Certified Local Government Status.
At least two HLC members must attend to satisfy those requirements.

4. Staff will be
meeting on May 19th with the owner of the Tomlinson-Wilson House to
begin to develop a preservation solution for the property. The
owner has made a commitment to the Town of Huntersville that he will not
destroy the house.

5. Staff met with a
prospective buyer of the Barringer Hotel to explain the economic
incentives associated with preservation. Staff will keep you
informed as to what transpires.

6. Staff met with
City officials to discuss the HLC's possible acquisition of the Walker's
Grocery Store in the Belmont neighborhood. The Projects Committee
will be making a recommendation regarding this matter.

7. Staff met with
County officials to discuss the HLC's possible acquisition of Holly Bend
or the Robert Davidson House. The Projects Committee will be
making a recommendation regarding this matter.

8. Staff was
disappointed that the prospective sales of the Rozzel House and the
Sidney and Ethel Grier House did not occur. The properties will
continue to be marketed, and staff will be considering other strategies
to secure the sale of the properties.
9. Preservation
North Carolina will be holding a fundraiser in Charlotte on June 5th.
If you have not received an invitation please see Staff for details.
Respectfully submitted,
Dan L. Morrill
