Director's Report

1. A public hearing
with the Town Board of Matthews is scheduled for September 25th to consider
the prospective designation of the Massey Clark House as a historic
landmark.
2. A public hearing
with the Town Board of Pineville is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., September 12th, to consider
the prospective designation of the McCoy Barbershop/Pineville Post Office
(Former) and the Yandell Hotel and Grocery Store Building as historic
landmarks.
3. A public hearing
with the Charlotte City Council is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., October 18th, to consider
the prospective designation of the portions of White Oak Plantation and the
City House as historic
landmarks.

4. A public hearing
with the Davidson Town Board is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., November 14th, to consider
the prospective designation of four properties for designation as historic
landmarks.
5. The Board of County Commissioners
voted unanimously on September 6, 2006, to recognize the funds necessary to
purchase White Oak Plantation. The closing should occur soon after
October 18th, when City Council should vote to designate the remaining
portions of the property as a historic landmark. Len Norman made the
presentation to the Board.

6. The unveiling
ceremony for the historic marker for Plato Price School did occur on
September 2nd. Thanks to Valerie Lewis for her attendance.

5. Staff has been
working on a parking management contract for the approximately 15parking
spaces behind Grace A. M. E. Zion Church. Staff is also soliciting
bids to place a translucent covering over stained glass windows at Grace
Church. Staff has shown the building to a prospective tenant but has
not been actively pursuing selling the property.

6. Staff met with
Bob Deaton, a member of the Board of Rural Hill Farm. We reviewed the
long range plans the Board has for the site.

7. Staff has spent
considerable time during the past few weeks assisting with negotiations for
the prospective purchase of White Oak Plantation.
8. A public ceremony
for the placement of the Historic Marker at Plato Price School will occur on
September 2nd. The HLC is invited.
9. Preservation
North Carolina will have its annual convention in Wilmington, N.C. from
October 5 through October 7.
