Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission

Education Committee Meeting

October 20, 2005

Location: HLC Office, 2100 Randolph Road, Charlotte, N.C.

Agenda

      

       1.  Chairman’s Remarks:  Ms. Lewis

a. Bus Tour. Ms. Lewis noted that the bus tour will occur on January 8, 2006. Gray Newman stated that he would contact the Board of County Commissioners and the members of the Charlotte City Council. It was noted that someone will have to contact the City Council and

2.  Director’s Remarks:  Dr. Morrill

a. Update on reporting to public officials.   Dr. Morrill reported that he continues to email monthly reports to public officials throughout Mecklenburg County.

b. Update on Proclamation for Jack Boyte.   Dr. Morrill reported that he has sent a draft of a proclamation to the County Manager’s Office. Dr. Morrill reported that he has not heard back but will be following up on this initiative.

c. Website.   Dr. Morrill stated that the website continues to be an important educational resource for the community.

3.  Historic Mural.

             It was the consensus of the Committee that if Corder Phillips and Wilson   does not use Kenneth Whitsett's historic mural of Mecklenburg County that ownership of the mural will revert to the Historic Landmarks Commission.

4.  Old Business.

a.  Presentation to the Board of County Commissioners.  Ms. Lewis mentioned that Mike Sullivan has suggested that the presentation will occur in January 2006.

        5. New Business There was no new business.
