1.  The Committee discussed the issue of whether the website should be moved to the County server. There was a general consensus that the website should remain with the Commission and that all parts of the site should be brought to FrontPage. Dr. Morrill stated that he would construct the site and bring it before the Committee at its next meeting.

2.  Tattie Bos reported on the Commission’s participation in the Blast For The Past, sponsored by Historic Charlotte. All agreed that the display of the Commission’s activities was most effective.

3.  Ross Richardson reviewed plans for the unveiling of the Good Samaritan historic marker at Ericcson Stadium. Several politicians are attending the event; and Norman Mitchell, Jeff Bradsher, and Jim Richardson are speaking. Emily Zimmern of the Museum of the New South will speak about the exhibit of the chapel furniture that is part of the museum’s permanent exhibit. Media will be present. The Commission does have some private discretionary funds that it can use for the purpose of providing refreshments.

MR. MISENHEIMER MADE A MOTION SECONDED BY MS. BOS THAT THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE RECOMMEND TO THE COMMISSION THAT UP TO $200 BE SPENT ON REFRESHEMENTS FOR THE EVENT. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

4.  Amy Hockett stated that she had talked with Sara Spencer about the Commission’s work. There was a discussion about the need to maintain good relations with public officials.

5.  Yolanda Johnson-Gess stated that she would review the African American Survey before the next meeting. She asked members of the Committee to forward to her any suggestions about making the public more aware of the survey.

6.  Amy Hockett stated that she would contact Brian Barwick about how the Commission might highlight the preservation of the Palmer Fire School.

7.  John Misenheimer said that he had talked with Allen Brooks and that the auxiliary building at Rural Hill will be completed by late Spring. John Misenheimer stated that he and Dr. Morrill had met with Becky Finger, Social Studies Coordinator for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools. She recommended that a pilot program be organized for a school to visit the site in the Spring. Dr. Morrill stated that he had been contacted by a park planner about meeting about the how the auxiliary building will become part of the overall park facility.

8.  The Committee discussed how it might be involved in National Historic Preservation Week.

9.  There was a discussion about the need to approach individuals about becoming members of the Committee. Dr. Morrill stated that he would follow through with contacting the individuals on his list.

10.  There was discussion about the possibility of a Holiday Party. Amy Hockett will follow up with Mike Sullivan, who is in charge of the event. There was a suggestion that the event might better be scheduled sometime after January 1st.
