1. Committee Chairman’s Report: John Misenheimer

MS. JOHNSON-GESS PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. SCHULMAN THAT THE MINUTES FROM THE MARCH 21, 2002, EDUCATION COMMITTEE BE APPROVED AS DISTRIBUTED. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

2. Consulting Director’s Report: Dan Morrill

Dr. Morrill reported that the HLC’s website - www.landmarkscommission.org" has received 641,982 hits - currently more than 1250 hits daily. Dr. Morrill spends a lot of time keeping the website updated. He does all of the work on his home computer as the HLC’s equipment is too old to use for these purposes. He expects that the County will resolve the computer situation in the HLC’s office soon.

3. Davidson Schoolhouse at Rural Hill

Mr. Misenheimer reported that the HLC has voted to spend $55,000 out of the revolving bond fund for the bathroom/classroom facility to be built near the Davidson Schoolhouse at Rural Hill. Mr. Misenheimer and Dr. Morrill met recently with officials from the Catawba Valley Scottish Society and Park and Recreation concerning programming for the Schoolhouse

4. INTERNET Journal

Dr. Morrill reported that Dr. Paula Stathakis has identified three articles for the HLC’s website Journal. The first issue is scheduled for fall publication.

5. Sign for Old Good Samaritan Hospital

Dr. Morrill reported that he and Mr. Jeff Bradsher, HLC Chairman, met recently with Mr. John Richardson and Ms. BJ Waymer, officials from the Carolina Panthers, regarding where the sign for Old Good Samaritan Hospital should be placed on the Ericsson stadium property. Mr. Nicholson and Ms. Waymer are in favor of the sign and will let the HLC know a decision soon.

6. Old Business

WTVI continues to be interested in producing one-minute historic neighborhood spots between regularly scheduled television programs.

7. New Business

Dr. Morrill has obtained a list of media contacts from Mecklenburg County for the HLC to be more proactive in its media contacts.

The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
