Present:

Mike Sullivan, Vice-Chair

Tattie Bos

Amy Hockett

Yolanda Johnson-Gess

Cameron Blake Holtz

Dan Morrill, HLC Consulting Director

1. African American Survey

Mike Sullivan opened the meeting and asked Yolanda Johnson-Gess to explain the process for distributing the display board Amy Hockett has prepared to highlight the African American Survey. A "thank you" memento will be sent to each of the three schools that will receive the display. The first school to receive the exhibit will be Harding High School.

2. Event For Public Officials

Mike Sullivan explained that Bryan Turner had stated that he saw no difficulty from his perspective as Project Manger in the HLC's hosting the event in the Charlotte Cotton Mills Building B for public officials. Insurance for the event is covered by the County. The timing of the event was discussed, and it was agreed that Thursday would be the best day. The date was tentatively set for May 1st at 8:30 A.M.

Dan Morrill stated that he would contact the County about assisting with a mailing for the event and possibly other areas of assistance. The Committee hopes to have 40 to 50 people in attendance. Mike Sullivan stated that he thought it would be important to have a program, especially to illustrate the work of the Commission. The Committee agreed that Mike Sullivan could investigate the feasibility of doing a 5-minute video to highlight historic preservation projects. An alternative might be a Power Point presentation. Arrangements for donations by a caterer were discussed. Cameron Blake Holtz agreed to work with Dan Morrill in putting together a list of individuals to be invited. The list should include approximately 200 individuals. It was agreed that public officials and staff should constitute the list. Mike Sullivan also wanted to produce something that the participants could take with them, including descriptions of  present projects. Amy Hockett agreed to work on a map illustrating historic landmarks throughout the County. Tattie Bos agreed to work on an outline for the program. Mike Sullivan stated that his department could print name tags.

Rural Hill Schoolhouse

Dan Morrill explained that a celebration will be held at the pavilion building at the Davidson Schoolhouse at Rural Hill on May 20th. The Committee felt that this would dovetail well with the event on May 1st.

Next Meeting

The Committee will meet next on March 20th at 6 P.M.

The meeting adjourned at 6:55 P.M.
