The number 10 bus departs the square in 1971.
When the photo was taken Kress had closed and would soon be demolished to
make way for the NationsBank Plaza. Kress was a way station for thousands of
transit riders. More than a five and dime store, Kress was a haven of warm
in the winter and air-condition in the summer and is remembered for it fresh
donuts which were made on site.
The crane behind the bus was part of the old civic center construction
project.
