When the photo was taken Kress had closed and would soon be demolished to make way for the NationsBank Plaza. Kress was a way station for thousands of transit riders. More than a five and dime store, Kress was a haven of warm in the winter and air-condition in the summer and is remembered for it fresh donuts which were made on site. The crane behind the bus was part of the old civic center construction project. |
