Many people drove by the Grier Rea
House and could not understand why the Historic Landmarks Commission was so
interested in saving this c.1804 plantation house.
It is only when one goes inside that
one understands the importance of the house. These brackets on the
sides of the stair risers are exquisite examples of hand craftsmanship.
Notice the Federal style mantel and
overmantel. Ironically, many of the neighbors live in homes that
emulate the interior appointments of the Grier Rea House.
Here we see the delicate brick arch in
the parlor fireplace.
