Historic Landmarks Commission News Fall 2001

The Commission has just completed a survey of industrial, educational, and institutional buildings in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.  This is the former Ford Motor Plant on Statesville Road.  Click here to see list of properties judged eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Commission is examining the results of its Survey of Post World War Two buildings in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.  Many would be surprised to learn that the Park 'N Shop on North Tryon Street is eligible for the National Register.  Click here to see list of properties judged eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
Ava Autrey moved with her family to Indiana and therefore had to resign her seat on the Historic Landmarks Commission.  She chaired the Design Review Committee and provided excellent leadership.  We Will miss her.

Charlotte City Council designated the historic Mecklenburg County Courthouse as a historic landmark.  Designed by noted architect Louis Asbury, the building is Charlotte's finest example of Classical Revival architecture.  Click here for Survey and Research Report.
