The Commission has identified the
Grier House at McKee and Tilley Morris Roads as an important historic
structure. The Commission will be buying the house for restoration and
eventual resale.
The Commission is processing the
Lee House
for historic landmark designation. It was built in the 1960s and
designed by architect Praise Connor Lee. Local examples of modern
architecture are highly valued.
The Commission is working with
Hopewell Presbyterian Church and the developer of the Tanner's Creek
Community to save the remains of the Richard Barry House. Now a ruin,
this 18th century house was once the home of one of Mecklenburg's leading
citizens.
Congratulations to Charlotte Trolley
for saving the trolley body that was brought to Charlotte several years ago
and placed in the now-closed Spaghetti Warehouse Restaurant in the Nebel
Knitting Mill. Charlotte Trolley plans to use the trolley body as a
classroom for the thousands of people who visit the carbarn each year.
