The Historic Landmarks Commission will meet next on March 13, 2006, in its offices in the Ratcliffe-Otterbourg House at 2100 Randolph Road, Charlotte, N.C.  The meeting shall commence at 6:30 p.m.  Anyone needing assistance should contact the Historic Landmarks Commission beforehand at 704-376-9115.

a.  Recommendations For Study List.  The Committee examined properties that the Town of Pineville wishes to be considered for historic landmark designation.  After due deliberation the Committee passed the following motion.

DR. MATTSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. ALSOP TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE FOLLOWING PROPERTIES IN PINEVILLE, N. C., BE PLACED ON THE HLC’S STUDY LIST: 319 MAIN STREET, 321 MAIN STREET, 325 MAIN STREET, 327 MAIN STREET, 331 MAIN STREET, 312 MAIN STREET, 314 MAIN STREET, 316 MAIN STREET, 318 MAIN STREET, 322 MAIN STREET, THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

Staff Recommendation:  Approve The Motion As Presented.

b.  Recommendations Regarding Morningside Apartments.  The Commission voted at its February meeting to direct Staff to investigate the relative significance of the Morningside Apartments within the context of other projects of its type in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.  Staff presented that report to the Survey Committee.  Click here for report.

After due deliberation the Survey Committee approved the following motion.

MR. SULLIVAN PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. BENSON TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE MORNINGSIDE APARTMENTS NOT BE PROCESSED FOR HISTORIC LANDMARK DESIGNATION. THE COMMITTEE APPROVED THE MOTION WITH THE FOLLOWING VOTE: FAVOR: BENSON, NORMAN, SULLIVAN.  OPPOSE: ALSOP, MATTSON.  ABSTAIN: NONE.

Staff Recommendation:  Approve The Motion As Presented.

4.  Projects Committee Items. Special Note:  The Projects Committee has not met since the last HLC meeting.  Therefore its one item of business will first be considered by the HLC itself.

Grace A.M.E. Zion Church has submitted an updated offer to sell Grace A.M.E. Zion Church to the Commission.  The Commission will have to go into executive session to consider this matter.

Staff Recommendation:  Move Into Executive Session And Take Appropriate Action.
