Landmarks Commission

1. Chairman's Report: Gray Newman
2. Director's Report: Dan Morrill
Tomlinson-Wilson
House
3. Holly Bend. Neck Road, Huntersville.
The County will almost certainly be purchasing this property later this
year. Built c. 1800, it is one of Mecklenburg County’s finest Plantation
Homes. The County might ask the Board of County Commissioners to sell the
house and some acreage, probably three or four, to the HLC for the price paid by the County. The scheme, just as with the Oehler House, would
be for the Commission to sell the house with protective covenants in the
deed. Does the Committee want to recommend to the HLC that it pursue
purchase of the property?

4. Walker's Grocery, Belmont
Neighborhood, Charlotte. The City will almost certainly be purchasing
this property later this year. Built c. 1900, it is one of Mecklenburg
County’s oldest neighborhood grocery store buildings. The City is currently
negotiating with the owner and will most likely propose to City County that
the HLC purchase the property. The scheme, just as with the Oehler House,
would be for the Commission to sell the house with protective covenants in
the deed. Does the Committee want to recommend to the HLC that it pursue
purchase of the property?

5. Crutchfield, Bomar, Brem House, 307 East Blvd.,
Dilworth Neighborhood, Charlotte. A designated historic landmark
and located in a local historic district, this is one of the oldest and
finest examples of Queen Anne style architecture in Dilworth. A contingency
contract has been written for the HLC to purchase the property.
It has not been signed, an act that would require a vote of the majority of
the Executive Committee. The only way to protect the house from
possible demolition is for the Commission to purchase it and place
preservation covenants in the deed when the house is sold.
Does the Committee want to recommend to the HLC that it pursue purchase of
the property?

6. Grier Rea House, Alexander & Providence Roads, Charlotte.
Bryan Turner and Stewart Gray have met with the contractor and have
visited the property with the contractor. An agreement has been
reached which will require HLC approval. Bryan Turner will explain the
specifics. Does the Committee want to recommend to the HLC that it
approve the agreement?

7. Richard Wearn House. Tuckaseegee Rd., Charlotte. A local residential developer has purchased the property and intends to
build a housing development. There is a likelihood that the developer
will approach the Commission about possible purchase.
Does the Committee want to recommend to the HLC that it pursue purchase of
the property?
