West Sixth Street
Railroad Underpass. UTM: 17
513949E 3898702N This underpass was completed
between 1950 and 1953. It provided direct access to Elmwood
Cemetery, a major publicly-owned burial ground. In terms of style, the structure is essentially Classical
Revival with scrolled brackets on the side, arched colonnades at the
base, and balustrades along the edge of the tracks. The
western half of the bridge was removed in the 1970s when an even higher
bridge was constructed. |
