architecturally significant residential streetscape remaining in Center
City Charlotte is the cluster of homes bordering the eastern edge of
Irwin Ave. just south of Irwin Ave. Elementary School, formerly Harding
High School. Built in the 1910s and 1920s, the majority are
predictably frame dwellings with large front porches ideally suited to
warm Southern climates. Most people do not realize that the Center City
contains vestiges of early twentieth century suburbanization. |
